Incentives
Local Incentives

You should always check with the local municipality where your business is located or where you’re planning to locate your business to find out if they offer special incentives or loan programs for small businesses. Two examples of incentives that may be available through your local municipality are Industrial Property Tax Abatements and Brownfield Tax Incentives.

Industrial Property Tax Abatements are for manufacturers that build new plants, expand existing plants, renovate aging plants, or add new machinery and equipment. For more information click here.

Brownfield Tax Incentives promote redevelopment of contaminated, blighted or functionally obsolete sites through Michigan Business Tax credits.  Only properties designated in locally-approved brownfield plans are eligible.  For more information click here.

State Incentives

The point of contact for state incentive programs for small businesses is the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Michigan's economic development and business incentives programs have recently been updated, and you can view an overview of the new program areas at http://www.michiganadvantage.org/Michigan-Business-Incentives/ .  There is a clickable link at the bottom of the page to contact MEDC staff who can assist you in exploring how the new incentive packages may benefit your business.
